  17. Affidavit # 2 of Prof Angela Campbell. In this document, she acknowledges flaws in her “research” design in a study of 22 women of Bountiful, which included allowing supposedly “anonymous” subjects to review and amend their “anonymous” statements regarding polygamy that were recorded in a survey.

  31. I am having trouble opening these documents, internet explorer keeps crashing when i try.
Do they need to be downloaded rather than just read online?
Is anyone else having this problem?

  32. I’m not having any problem, but then, I don’t use IE.

  33. I have IE 7 and have had no problem opening these documents. A couple of days ago I was fairly caught up on the documents here. Now, I am way behind again. Oh well, winter time, somewhat snowbound.

  34. Melissa,
Try Mozilla Firefox as a browser.

  35. Also excellent, Google’s Chrome browser:
    http://www.google.com/chrome/intl/en/landing_chrome.html

Or perhaps upgrade IE7 to IE8.

  36. I second google chrome, it also has tabs so you only have one browser open, but as many websites as you want (IE does this too) however the application (the browser itself) runs twice as fast as IE.

That is due to it being streamlined and not bogged down with code. It still has most of the features of IE, just not the code baggage.

  37. I use google chrome, also.

  38. Thankyou everyone. Am using IE7, but will try google

Teresa Jo is the one who brought someone else’s baby to her meeting with the Texas AG.

The sister-wife who married James Marion at 15 is Carole Barlow.

  67. Affidavit of Anonymous FLDS Witness # 1 for the Canadian Reference Case, a female from Bountiful FLDS Compound

  68. Affidavit of Anonymous FLDS Witness # 11, an unmarried 25 yr old female who is “not afraid” to have an assignment marriage to someone she does not know if the Prophet assigns her a husband she does not know.

  69. Affidavit of Anonymous FLDS Witness # 5, a male from Bountiful, British Columbia, describing the benefits of plural marriage – husband knows that he is the only man his wife has ever had sex with….

  70. Affidavit of FLDS Witness # 9, Christine Wayman of Riverton, Utah, an unmarried 22 year old woman, who attests to the virtues of polygamous family life and hopes to live in “celestial marriage” one day

  71. Affidavit of FLDS anonymous witness # 6, an ex FLDS 41 year old male who states that men leave the sect of their own volition, they are not forced to do so.

  72. I agree that Anon Witness #10 is Betty. Isn’t it funny that her mother will testify in public, but she has to give her testimony behind closed doors.

  73. Anon Witness #12 from Eldorado is none other than Zavanda who is married to Edson Jessop, Jr and left her older children behind in Short Creek and only took her 4 with Edson to the YFZ.

  74. You know, I wonder how it is that a notary from Utah signed off on the affidavit of Zavanda in Texas.

  75. Witness #13 is Melinda Fischer Jeffs. She’s the daughter of Dan and her husband is the son of David Hunter Jeffs who was kicked out.

  76. How did you figure out who #12 and # 13 were ?

  77. Brooklyn, have all these already testified? If not, #13 ought to be asked about her brother-in-law who plead guilty to sexual assault and is now serving 8 years in a Texas prison. He also plead guilty to Bigamy. This would be the one and only Lehi Barlow Jeffs.

  78. By reading the affidavit and know the facts. Who else was the dentist of the community, Melinda is the only one of Dan’s kids who has publicly tried to discredit him.

As for Zavanda, it was easy. She mentioned the boat accident. I knew that her first husband and the father of the children she left behind died in a boating accident. From there it was all downhill figuring it out.

  79. Melinda Fischer Jeffs has a daughter who’s 14, wonder if she’s married yet.

  80. Proud,
Only witnesses 2,3,4 have testified so far. I don’t know if the others will be testifying.

  81. I’m curious about the statements that they are spending so much money defending from charges against polygamy. I wonder if the rank and file even know what the charges are, or if they think that marrying a 12 year old is just a part of polygamy. I think that if there had not been under aged brides there would be no charges at all, even the polygamy charges. I can’t think of a single polygamy charge in the last two decades that did not involve an under aged bride. Don’t they get that fine little detail? Or are they so removed from facts that they don’t even know?

  82. A very interesting point Betty. I sincerely think that all their “news” is filtered through the Prophet, and therefore they missed those facts.

  83. Affidavit of Anonymous FLDS Witness # 8, a female > age 18 from Utah, who relates details of her childhood and her desire to one day enter plural marriage. She relates that her father taught her that men and women were equals, glossing over FLDS theology and its circumscribed roles for women, of course.

  84. Brooklyn, Anon Witness #8 is spinning a fairytale.

  85. Yes Anonymous 8:11 am, she is a spinner and a weaver of fairy tales.

  86. At 18, she is writing (rather well, I think!) about her childhood – measured through her still-young eyes.

Yes, I realize Witness #8 sounds like she’s weaving a fairytale. But in fairness, I have to admit that with a few exceptions, I could have written that myself. Truthfully, I consider mine nearly as idyllic.

The rub comes after (plural) marriage. It would be interesting to hear how that works/worked out for her 20 years later.

  87. Well she’s older than 18, just look at her describe watching the Waltons and Lawrence Welk on Thursdays and Saturdays. Those shows haven’t been on Thursdays and/or Saturdays in over 20 years. Also, if she was around during the 1953 raid, she’s at least in her 50s. That means she’s married and choosing to talk about her childhood, not about her adult experiences.

  88. You are correct. And I stand corrected about her age. She’s probably about my age.

But even now, I could still write a similar account of my own experience. I’m just saying, it’s not as much of a fairytale as you might think.

Personally I could never refute her stated experience since it’s so like mine. I have to say (again) if you don’t experience it for yourself, you probably cannot relate. Therefore, it sounds like a fairytale.

Plural life was radically different back then. She should have given some insight into her married life. That would be even more interesting – and certainly more relevant to present circumstances.

  89. I agree E. Texas, knowing that she is over 50 sheds a totally different light on her childhood testimony. Life was different back then from all I’ve been able to dig up.

I too would be interested in hearing her marriage experiences and how fairytale like her own children’s or grandchildren’s childhood is under Warren.

  90. Exactly PT… that was then; this is now.

  91. The telling sentence is
    6. So, from the beginning, fear and anxiety has shadowed the story….

As for #10, Betty Jessop, her siblings should submit their own affidavit to be fair and balance.

  92. Affidavit of Carolyn Jessop for the Canadian Reference Case on Polygamy

  93. Affidavit of Prof Walter Scheidel, Professor of the Humanities and the Classics at Stanford University, on the topic of the origins and consequences of universal monogamy as the predominant form of marriage in the Western world.

  94. Affidavit of Prof Susan Drummond of Osgoode Hall Law School, Toronto, regarding the legal history of criminalization of the practice of polygamy in Canada

  95. Affidavit of Perry Kendall, Provincial Health Officer for British Columbia, regarding stats on teen pregnancies in Bountiful & Creston

  96. Opening Statement of REAL Women of Canada for the Canadian Reference Case

  97. Affidavit of an ex FLDS member who now practices as a social worker, assisting polygamists

  98. Affidavit of Bruce Klette regarding vital statistics from birth records of the Bountiful community – teenage pregnancies are common in Bountiful, there are many American teenagers giving birth in Bountiful, and most of the teenage brides are not attending school

  99. I wonder, is Betty, Carolyn’s daughter, aware of any child support paid to her mother? Just curious, we can’t answer what she knows or doesn’t, but I’d really like to hear her perspective.

  100. http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/2011/01/27/barbara-kay-the-stepford-wives-of-bountiful-b-c/

    Way to go Barbara

  101. Granny, I think she would be aware. In Caroly’s second book, she spoke of a mini re-uniting with Betty when she was in TX for the child support proceedings. Not sure if Betty is aware any $ was awarded to Carolyn cuz you know how they all lie.

  102. I wonder, is Betty, Carolyn’s daughter, aware of any child support paid to her mother? Just curious, we can’t answer what she knows or doesn’t, but I’d really like to hear her perspective.

GrannyToad said this on January 29, 2011 at 1:40 PM

    GrannyToad

I wonder if Betty is aware Cathleen Jessop is also receiving child support from Merril’s Social Security.

  103. Anon, that’s the better question for Betty.

  104. It seems to me that the witnesses are the usual suspects. Couldn’t find a dozen Canadians to testify on their own behalf?

Apparently they had to import the best spin doctors to defend the abuse.

  105. Affidavit of the Attorney General of British Columbia for the Canadian Reference Case, introducing media coverage of the polygamous Mormon patriarchs as they refused to testify

  106. Affidavit submitted by the British Columbia Teacher’s Federation admitting into evidence the judgment in the matter of Teressa Blackmore (Becky Musser’s sister vs. Roy Blackmore

  107. Affidavit submitted by the British Columbia Teacher’s Federation regarding education in Bountiful School for the Reference Case on Polygamy

  108. Affidavit of Susie Barlow for the Canadian Reference Case regarding growing up in the FLDS Sect

  109. The BCTF Affidavit posted 1/29 at 11:26 pm is interesting in that it documents that the FLDS filed a Human Rights Discrimination Complaint against the BCTF when the BCTF criticized the quality of education offered at Bountiful and their VERY HIGH dropout rate.
A very interesting read indeed in light of the constant instance by others that a superior education is offered there.

  110. Sorry I was half asleep – above should read – “A very interesting read indeed in light of the constant insistence by others that a superior education is offered there.”

  111. After reading Susie Barlow’s affidavit, I’m betting that’s a truer picture of life under Warren, especially for the Barlow families where the father got kicked out simply for being a Barlow.

  112. Wow, the Susie Barlow story. Unless she’s leaving out part of that, (did she have permission to go camping with her “son”?), they punished HER for being raped. Figures.

  113. Affidavit of Lorna Blackmore, an Ex – FLDS member from Bountiful, regarding life in the sect and her departure from the group. Of note, she states that polygamy is used by the hierarchy of the FLDS as a means of controlling the members-

  114. Winston Blackmore is either more lenient than Warren or he’s just clueless. His daughters are all over the internet, facebook, etc.

  115. Well anon, when you have more than 120 children, how can you possibly know what all of them are doing ?

  116. Affidavit of Jennifer Zitting regarding the lifestyle of her former in laws in Centennial Park for the Canadian Reference Case.

  117. Prof Witte, Director of Emory University Center for the Study of Law and Religion on the history, ethics, and legal outlook on polygamy prepared for the Attorney General of British Columbia

  118. The Catholic Organization for Life and the Family and their position statement regarding intervention in the Canadian Reference Case

  119. I have to say that Jonathan Turley was way off the mark when he went on and on about religious and cultural practices. The Old Testament also had slavery does that mean that he is in support of slavery as well? Some Islamists believe honor killing is a religious duty, should Canada then allow murder as a religious freedom. As for historical contexts, the Aztecs practiced human sacrifice. It sounds more like, but Mom, everyone else is doing it than any legal reason to allow it. Under Turley’s reasoning, murder, slavery, all forms of abuse and torture, human sacrifice and even canibalism should be allowed be it is or was practiced somewhere and some one held it to be a religious practice. Religion itself is what makes polygamy abusive, because it is under threat of eternal damnation that causes these girls to become sexual partner to older men which is against the law both marriage laws (age limit) or sexual abuse laws in Canada. By the way, sexual consent being given under threat is against the federal law in America, that includes threat of eternal damnation. Does Mr. Turley believe that there should be any age limitation on marriage or is that just invading privacy to him?

Is Mr. Turley aware that the United States granted assylum to a woman to escape polygamy in another country.

As for his statement than there is no evidence that polygamy causes harm, perhaps he has not read studies from Bangladesh which places the blame for trafficking women and girls on polygamy. Perhaps he has not read the statistics from the Texas Ranch or Bountiful in which young men and even boys were conspicously absent. Where the teen rate of births are much higher. But as long as denying education, neglecting and abandoning boys, using them for underage labor, extreme physcial abuse of babies and children, having sex with “brides” under 16 by older married men is called religion and a cultural belief they should be able to do so to Mr. Turley;.

  120. On Jennifer Zitting’s affidavit on thing that jumped out was the “I knew a woman who raised 24 children and raised them well…” and all I could think was — only one? If polygamy is so wonderful shouldn’t you know scores of women who raised 20+ children and raised them well?

Also the inherent fallacy with trying to claim that just because you haven’t personally experiences the drawbacks of polygamy they don’t exist. Sorry lady, you could have had a good experience with polygamy and it can STILL be inherently harmful to women and children. That’s just the way life works.

  121. Well said, blackbird.
Here is a link to the affidavit of Matthew Davies, PhD, a clinical psychologist from Murray, Utah. Dr Davies performs parental fitness examinations, and he claims he has in the past assessed Heidi Mattingly Foster and John Kingston re : their ability to effectively parent their children.
Recall that Mr. Kingston went to jail for beating his daughter when she refused to marry her uncle. Ms. Mattingly Foster allowed Mr. Kingston to return to her home after he was released from prison, and she now has custody of her children with Kingston.
Of note, Dr Davies claims in his affidavit that the Altman & Ginat text, “Polygamous Families in Contemporary Society” is an “empirical” study of polygamous families in North America. This is NOT accurate. The women interviewed in this book were interviewed IN THE PRESENCE OF THEIR HUSBANDS. THEY WERE NOT INTERVIEWED IN PRIVATE. MOREOVER THE WOMEN INTERVIEWED IN ALTMAN AND GINAT’S BOOK WERE SELF – SELECTED, NOT RANDOMLY CHOSEN, THEREFORE THIS BOOK DOES NOT REPRESENT EMPIRIC RESEARCH NOR IS THERE ANY EVIDENCE OF IRB OVERSIGHT OR PEER REVIEW, IN ADDITION TO BEING A VIOLATION OF GOOD CLINICAL HUMAN SUBJECTS RESEARCH PRACTICES to INTERVIEW VULNERABLE SUBJECTS WITHOUT ANONYMITY.

  122. I agree Rebeckah, and we must remember that while I know CP has it’s own share of abuses, it isn’t run like Warren Jeffs group. When I was in the Short Creek area, the CP people were working in their yards and would wave as you drove by. Not so over in CC and Hildale. Those people wouldn’t even look at you.

  123. Affidavit of Edward Vanderboom regarding school inspections and certifications for Bountiful and Mormon Hills Schools.
BESS does not have certification to award a graduation certificate for grades 11 and 12. Mormon Hills School is improving, but has a high drop out rate.

  124. OH, PUKE! It’s the “polygamy is so liberating for women” arguement! WOW! Some of the women are TEACHERS and NURSES! I’m so impressed. NOT. “free from the care and feeding of a husband”; is this woman serious? Has she been kept in a cave her whole life and not heard that women got the vote some time ago? That there are female doctors, not just nurses? How about female CEO’s of huge corporations who also have children. AND, BONUS, they have exclusive rights to one man! What a crock.

  125. Betty, which affidavit are you referencing ? and of course, I agree with you.

  126. Jennifer Zitting, BiB

  127. Ah yes, Jennifer Zitting, commenting on the relationship of her ex in – laws. What that has to do with the reference case – I don’t know…

  128. Statement of Position of the Attorney General of British Columbia regarding the Constitutional Questions in the Reference Case on Polygamy

  129. A brief filed jointly by the attorneys general of Canada and British Columbia regarding the history of anti – polygamy legislation in Canada

  130. Supporting documents regarding the history of anti polygamy legislation in Canada – Volume 1

  131. Supporting documents regarding the history of anti polygamy legislation in Canada – Volume 2

  132. Affidavit of FLDS Attorney Stephen Clark of SLC requesting broad immunity of witnesses to prevent prosecution in the US – please note, a number of Islamic polygynous wives would not come forward to testify at the reference case as their anonymity was not guaranteed by the court

  133. Affidavit of Merrill Palmer, Principal of BESS, regarding administration and inspection of his school

  134. Affidavit of Marianne Watson of Principle Voices, introducing a chapter from her book

  135. Affidavit of Prof Todd Shackleford disputing the affidavit of Prof Henrich

  136. I found Mr. Palmer’s affidavit about his school interesting. Of the children who are enrolled in the 9th Grade 80% (or so) graduate. But what are the numbers of the children who are enrolled from kindergarten or first grade to graduation? Just what happenst between grades 8 and 9? Are children vanishing? Why the distinction and did he honestly think no one would notice?

  137. And Shackleford’s affidavit is just pathetic. So, men are jealous in monogamous relationships and not polygynous? Men and women conflict in ALL relationships? Step parents are a leading indicator of harm to children?

Well then, what does he think women taking care of children they haven’t birthed is going to do for kids? And let’s just examine the practice of reassigning women in polygyny when their “husband” is thrown out for whatever reason?

Claiming these conditions are a product of monogamy is bad science and about as stupid as I can think of. What kind of a moron is he and does anyone know how his “papers” on monogamy were recieved by his peers? S.? Have you read them and the feed back on them by any chance?

  138. Perhaps it’s the dazzle with brilliance baffle with BS effect they expect others to believe.

  139. I will look into that, Rebeckah. As far as I can tell, he is not viewed as a subject matter expert.

  140. Both Shackleford and Palmer are peeing on our legs and telling us that it is raining.

  141. Rebeckah, if step parents are a problem, then the FLDS is full of problems. Many of the under aged girls I have read about in the FLDS were living with step fathers.

  142. Affidavit submitted by the British Columbia Teacher’s Federation on statistics from Bountiful (FLDS) and Mormon Hills (Blackmore group) Schools. Apparently there is a high drop out rate beginning in the 7th and 8th grades at Bountiful School.

  143. West Coast LEAF, a British Columbia Women’s Rights Group, proposes a “read down” of the current polygamy laws in Canada to protect the secular polygamists / polyamorists – their proposal would only prosecute polygamy if it involved a minor, or if exploitation, coercion, abuse of authority, undue influence, or gross imbalance of power were found to be present in the polygamous relationship.

  144. Consistent with requests to include documents related to the Canadian polyamorists case against their polygamy laws, I humbly submit for your review an affidavit submitted by the Wiccans who are apparently concerned that Canada’s anti – polygamy laws adversely affect their religious practices.

  145. Prof Martha Ertman of the University of Maryland filed an affidavit regarding the history of anti polygamy legislation in the United States

  146. Affidavit # 2 of Dr Beall, in response to the affidavit of Dr Matthew Davies.

  147. I think Dr. Beall did an excellent job of showing Dr. Davies’ errors. 🙂

  148. I love the way that some of these psychologists dismiss the empirical research studies on the effect of polygamy on women and children which were performed in Islamic countries. Firstly, these psychologists (like Davies) only cite one author who did studies on Israeli Arabs, and they only cite two of his papers. They dismiss his results as being applicable only to the Israeli Arab population, despite the fact that other investigators have had similar findings in Islamic polygamist families in Malaysia, Indonesia, UAE, Jordan, Syria, Afghanistan, Iran and Turkey.
The majority of polygamists in the US are Moslems, NOT Mormons – and these Islamic polygamists are immigrants from places like Africa and Pakistan. So why do these psychologists claim that the empirical research studies performed in Islamic countries are not applicable to polygamists in the US, since most polygamists in the US are Moslem immigrants ???
The findings in the existing empirical studies on Moslem polygamy are clear – polygamy has a negative effect on women – particularly first wives. The first wives experience a loss of self esteem, depression, and increased levels of anxiety when their husbands take a new wife. Coercion is commonplace in Islamic polygyny, just as it is in fundamentalist Mormonism. Why would these psychologists suspect that Mormon fundamentalist women would not experience the same emotions as their Islamic counterparts ?

  149. Please forgive me for cross-posting this, but I just realized that I should have posted it here instead of on the General Discussion thread.

I have reason to believe that FLDS witness #8 is a daughter of Marion Hammon – probably either Martha, Ireta or Luella – daughters of one of his 19 wives who was named Francis.

In witness #8′s affidavit she says that her father valued women, however it is my understanding that he was verbally abusive to them at home and in public speaking from the pulpit before the church congregation.

Obviously witness #8 never read her father’s book of sermons, before saying that he valued women.

Francis was the wife he trashed the most in public during church. It was so bad one Sunday that she was just sobbing.

  150. Born in Brooklyn, your tenacity to acquire and post all of these affidavits is AMAZING. Thanks SO much for all of your effort!

  151. Thanks Anon, still a lot more to go. I also have trial transcripts and video depositions.

  152. Anon 12:57 – what makes you think that witness # 8 is one of Hammon’s daughters ?

  153. As per your request, an affidavit from the Canadian Polyamory Advocacy Assn regarding a polyamorous triad involving a polyandrous woman.

  154. I’m having problems with viewing these documents. Specifically, the down button or slide button that forwards pages is forwarding one line at a time very, very slowly. If I click constantly, it still advances more slowly than I can read. Occassionally a click will cause it to advance many pages all at once, or to the end of the document. Anyone else have this type of problem?

  155. Yes… me too!!!

  156. some days it is slower than others

  157. OK, thanks. As long as it’s not something I’m doing wrong, the wrong browser or there’s some button I should be using that I’m not.

  158. Yes, I’ve had the same problem. Sometimes it requires real patience to read them. It’s been worth it to me though. 🙂

  159. Born in Brooklyn, if you read witness #8’s affidavit, she mentions an “Aunt Shari” and an “Aunt Alice” and her “Mother Francis”.

3 of Marion Hammon’s 19 wives were named Shari, Alice and Francis. Too coincidental for me!

I also had someone else read it, who has personal knowledge of that family, and agreed with me that she is a daughter of Marion Hammon.

  160. I figured it was a Hammon daughter after seeing the names of the adults she mentioned. There’s one daughter it isn’t though, and that would be Sara. She was interviewed extensively during the Banking on Heaven video and she told about abuse in the Hammon family.

  161. Affidavit of Sara White, a polyamorist, submitted by the Canadian Polyamory Advocacy Assn for the reference case

  162. Affidavit submitted by the Canadian Polyamory Advocacy Assn regarding a polyandrous relationship

  163. Reply of the FLDS attorney (Wickett for James Oler / FLDS) to the opening arguments of the Reference Case

  164. Canadian Assn for Freedom of Expression Affidavit for the Reference Case on Polygamy – they wished to see the anti polygamy statute struck down.

  165. Affidavit of Zoe Duff, a member of the Canadian Polyamory Advocacy Assn. Ms Duff was raised in the RLDS Church, and she reports that she experienced ridicule as a child because classmates accused her of being “a polygamist” despite the fact that the RLDS church does not condone polygamy. She converted to the Wiccan faith as part of her search for a more matriarchal religious philosophy. She is a polyandrous woman who is seeking to have a Wiccan handfasting ceremony for the triad, but she cannot find an officiant for the ceremony as local Wiccan priests fear enforcement of the Canadian anti polygamy statute.

  166. i have the same problems scrolling through the docs. Downloading them is the only solution i have found

  167. I’ve been downloading too melissa. I can sometimes scroll on the PC and/or laptop, but can’t on the iPad.

  168. Affidavit of Beyond Borders, a group which supports children’s rights and opposes human trafficking in children, for the Canadian Reference Case on Polygamy

  169. Opening statement of Beyond Borders for the Reference Case

  170. Affidavit submitted by a member of the Canadian Polyamorist Advocacy Assn. describing her polyamorous conjugal relationships

  171. Affidavit of Alia Hogben, social worker and director of the Canadian Council of Muslim Women in Ontario. Ms. Hogben reports that Muslim women have contacted her to request assistance when their husbands take secondary wives without their knowledge or consent. These women often do not leave their coercive polygamous marriages due to financial concerns, concerns regarding the welfare of their children, the social stigma associated with divorce in the Islamic community, fear of honor violence, or because they are immigrants who do not trust governmental agencies. Fear of prosecution for violation of anti polygamy statutes is not what prevents them from seeking a legal remedy for the injustice they have experienced. The affidavit identifies an imam in Toronto, Aly Hindy of the Scarborough Mosque near Toronto, who performs polygamous secondary religious (non legal) marriages for men without the knowledge and consent of the first wife – and nothing has been done to stop him. I have commented previously on this phenomenon in NYC – there is a mosque in Brooklyn where such “marriages” take place as well.

  172. Affidavit of Prof Mohammad Fadel,JD,PhD, lawyer, Islamic religious scholar and Research Chair of Law & Economics of Islam at the University of Toronto School of Law. He comments on Islamic law regarding polygyny, stating that polygyny is a marital option (not requirement) which is permitted but not favored. He states that Islamic law and tradition acknowledges that men often engage in polygyny for less than meritorious, (or even blameworthy) reasons, concealing their secondary wives from the first wife. Secondary wives are called “darra” in Islam, which translated from Arabic means “one who harms” the first wife. He reports that Islamic polygyny is observed in Canada, usually in the immigrant population, without the consent of the first wife. First wives are often reluctant to take action (report their husbands to the civil authorities for prosecution) due to their economic status, lack of extended family / social support and due to the social stigma associated with divorce in the Islamic community – Islamic women are NOT reluctant to report on their husband’s illicit polygyny due to fear of prosecution under anti polygamy statutes.

  173. Affidavit of Moslem nurse practitioner and researcher Dena Hassouneh – Phillips, RN, NP, PhD regarding her work with Moslem polygamous wives in Oregon. She reports that most wives were not informed of or consulted regarding their husband’s desire to take a second wife. She describes an increased incidence of depression, anxiety, and low self esteem among the first wives, mirroring the findings of Alean Al – Krenawi, PhD, in Palestinian and Bedouin Arabs – similar findings have also been reported by other investigators in Turkey, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Syria, and Afghanistan.

  174. an affidavit submitted by Stop Polygamy in Canada for the Reference Case regarding coercive Islamic polygyny in NY and its sequelae

  175. So anyone the law may have some legal or criminal hook out for is supposedly out of FLDS per Warren? What a joke! Follow the money.

  176. Yes Jim Oler is included.

  177. Hmmm, that’s kinda off. Warren told them to break the law and they did what he said so now they’re out? Damned if you don’t and damned if you do.

  178. Affidavit of Anver Emon for the Amicus in the Canadian Reference Case on Polygyny

  179. I notice that somebody is reposting lots of court documents on Scribd (and some of them are kind of garbled). Most of the pointers seem to come from this blog.

Is there some problem with the official archive? I can work with the AG’s office to fix it if there’s something wrong with it. It would be nice if people had a complete view from as close to the source as possible.

    https://docs.google.com/#folders/folder.0.0B-URIT52yhx4MDVkMDU5MDctZDM0Zi00ODQ4LWJkNWEtMWVjNmRjMGE2ZjQ0

  180. i tried the link you posted, jbash, and it takes me into google docs but then finds nothing.

  181. Sorry about that. I forgot that Google doesn’t always use the same URL for a folder, and used one that probably only works for me. Here’s the public one. I just tested this one, and it’s been in use for a long time.

    https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B-URIT52yhx4MDVkMDU5MDctZDM0Zi00ODQ4LWJkNWEtMWVjNmRjMGE2ZjQ0&hl=en

  182. Sigh. And here’s the original CPAA announcement of that archive, which has some comments about its idiosyncracies. Note that the AGBC has taken over maintenance since the posting was made.

    http://polyadvocacy.ca/s-293-reference-starts-we-give-you-all-the-documents

  183. Jbash, Born in Brooklyn is one of our frequent posters here. They were posting them at scribd as they were getting copies of them to make sure that there was access to them.

Thanks for the google docs link. It is much appreciated.

  184. The postings on my Scrbd account are not “garbled”
Scrbd does scroll slowly at times, and I uploaded the AGBC documents onto my Scrbd account for viewing. I did not change the documents in any way, these are the originals.

  185. I can’t imagine how a document could be “garbled”. If a document is corrupted, generally it can’t be read.

  186. Here’s an article about birth records for Bountiful from the Canadia Court Case.

    http://www.kxly.com/news/26792990/detail.html

It says that from 1986 to 2009, 215 mothers gave birth to 833 babies there. Of that 215, 85 were younger than 18 when they gave birth, and 2 had three children by the time they turned 18.

Hello! 39 percent of all mothers were 18 or younger!

  187. Noooo, they don’t marry girls underage and get them pregnant, do they?

Grrr! This makes my blood boil. Poor girls, poor kids!

  188. and a significant number of the teenage mothers who gave birth in Bountiful were Americans. See the Klette Affidavit.

  189. For clarity, I’m not claiming that Born in Brooklyn changed any documents, and certainly not intentionally. What I mean by “garbled” was that when I brought up my own affidavit, it looked as though somebody had probably run it through OCR, and then somehow displayed both the original image and the OCR output overlaid on each other, which makes it impossible to read. At one point I think it was displaying ONLY the OCR (and only the first few pages), but that may have been a slowness problem… something Google shares.

Some of the Google stuff is OCRed, but I’ve never seen it have a display problem like that.

It’s “John Robert Bashinski”, not “Robert Bashinski”, by the way…

  190. Thank you for the clarification. I will upload another copy of your affidavit and will re-post.

  191. Affidavit of John Robert Bashinski (aka JBash) – a copy which may be clearly read

  192. As per instructions from FLDS Texas, I will continue to post the documents from the Reference Case on Scrbd. I do not know how much longer the AGBC intends to keep the documents available for public viewing on Google Docs. I have finished posting the written affidavits with the exception of two affidavits by Prof Lori Beaman, as the files are damaged. The video affidavits are currently being sent to me from Canada, and I will post them on You Tube.
Here is the transcript of 11-22-10 opening session of the Reference Case

  193. Has anyone got more information about Jim Oler getting demoted and is no longer the Bishop? Ken Oler is now Warrens Main man in Canada. He lives in Bountiful and has a company in Sundry Alberta. The story I have heard is that Jimmy said too much in the
court hearing. He was supposed to answer them nothing. I think their new united order program willo be a disaster with Ken in charge.

  194. Cowboy,
I don’t know if he was ex’ed for that reason, but Oler did not testify for the trial, he declined. He did submit an affidavit, which may be found on this string.

  195. cowboy

It already looks like a disaster, on overdrive now that the leaders are eating their own.

I hope the Canadian court pays attention to the strings being pulled.

  196. I believe that Oler was asked if he took a woman’s opinion into account when he made his decisions regarding placement marriages. I believe that he said he would take their opinions “into consideration” but he still made the ultimate decision.

  197. I believe the admission Oler made which I posted above to the press regarding placement marriage was possibly the statement which got him into trouble with Warren Jeffs.

  198. BnB the Oler and Palmer affidavits were submitted but later were withdrawn to prevent them being called to question as witnesses. The goof was Oler/Palmer ,’Answered Them Something’ when the policy was,’Answer Them Nothing’. Remember Winston Blackmaore is the one who argued for a Charter of Rights and Freedom test case. The “handlings’ now shows who the puppeteer really is and he does not reside in Canada.

  199. Jim Oler really has not been that high of a profile with the public or press. I suspect his skill set may have been his loyalty to ‘Warrant’ and not his savvy press/public persona. He may be a crayon and not a very sharp pencil in ‘Warrants’ box of writing instruments.
