What about the FLDS adolescent boys? Where are they, what do they do?
Please contribute any information about particular teenage boys, their circumstances, outcomes, etc. I’ll kick it off:
Parley Jessop – only son of Tammy and Merril Jessop. Parley became entangled in the juvenile justice system at age 13. He took a construction truck joyriding and had a mishap – might have done some other stuff but nothing too serious. He was monitored by juvenile and child welfare authorities – went through counseling, made sure he was going to school and being taught the right subjects. His mother showed up, his father didn’t (like in Merrianne’s case).
Parley had two big issues: 1. he desperately wanted his father’s attention and 2. Parley couldn’t live by the strict FLDS rules and he was miserable. But he was only 13 although he was already traveling to different states to work construction with brother Ernie. Merril had gone to Texas and left him behind, and Tammy showed up in the news in Texas helping with the Ranch kids.
So where’s Parley?
UPDATE May 2, 2009:
I’ll start a list from names mentioned in comments. I would really appreciate any additional information if anyone knows th particular circumstances or outcomes of these boys:
John Jessop was 13yrs old when he was kicked out
ST. GEORGE, Utah — Abandoned by his family, faith, and community, Gideon Barlow arrived here an orphan from another world.
The freckle-faced 17-year-old said he was left to fend for himself last year after being forced out of Colorado City, Ariz., just over the state line.
”I couldn’t see how my mom would let them do what they did to me,” he said.
When he tried to visit her on Mother’s Day, he said, she told him to stay away. When he begged to give her a present, she said she wanted nothing. ”I am dead to her now,” he said
